How many people can say they will ride 545 miles on a bicycle from San Francisco to Los Angeles to support The AIDS Foundation? I can tell you… 2,499 plus me.
On June 5, 2022, I will start my fifth ride in The AIDS/LifeCycle. Yes, I’ve done it four times and I’m doing it again. Why? Because I lost my twin brother, Albert, in 1995.
This year, I’ve created a custom jersey and with the support of local sponsors, I’ve achieved my fundraising goal of $5000.
It’s a life-changing ride—not a race— except in the race to end AIDS. It’s a glorious and sometimes arduous journey through some of California’s most beautiful countryside. Co-produced by San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center, AIDS/LifeCycle advances these agencies’ shared interest in reducing new HIV infections and improving the quality of life for those living with HIV/AIDS.
As I ride in memory of my brother and in support of AIDS Research, I’m inspired by the natural colors and images and I carry that inspiration into my work… my designs. There is nothing more inspirational to me than riding down this state of ours with such a personal purpose.
When it’s all done, I’ll post some photos and maybe even show you a new project inspired by the ride. Until then, see you on the road!
